Listen to the full show.Malaria remains one of the world's great killers. Every thirty seconds, a child under five dies from malaria.
That contributes to more than a million deaths a year. Two million people a year suffer from the disease, which hampers economic advancement in affected countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.

But there's great news on the horizon. Governments, nonprofit organizations, and research institutes are joining together to invest in solutions. The goal: universal bednet coverage by 2010, and the elimination of malaria by 2015.

These are lofty ambitions, but the stories that make up the World Vision Report's special, Malaria 2009: Countdown to Eradication, demonstrate that funding, coordination, and targeted efforts can lead to success.

Highlights of our show:

Drugs are a crucial tool, but counterfeit malaria drugs are a profitable industry and a growing problem. Reporter Gretchen Wilson investigates the situation in Tanzania.
