Description

In the West African country of Liberia, reliable news can be hard to come by. Radio and TV stations were all but destroyed in that country's long civil war. Nearly half the population is illiterate.

So people in the capitol of Monrovia have come to depend on an unusual method of news delivery, one that uses a blackboard, chalk and symbols for the illiterate.

Prue Clarke reports.

Encore presentation from Sept. 21, 2008.
