Kidnapping China's BoysA picture of Peng Gaofeng's 4-year-old son, who was kidnapped in front of his shop. Photo by Du Bin.
Description
In China, the country's one-child policy has left many families desperate for boys. Male heirs are traditionally important, and the demand for sons has led to widespread kidnapping of young boys. On April 5, the New York Times ran a front-page story about the abduction of boys in rural China.
The story was originally broken a few years ago by British journalist Michael Sheridan. We spoke with him shortly after his reporting assignment.
