Description
It started as a headache that wouldn't go away, then chills and a foul-smelling sweat ... and before it was over, reporter Will Everett was screaming from hallucinations induced by a 105-degree fever.
He had traveled with his best friend to Honduras just two weeks before, to see a Central American rainforest and to visit a mahogany plantation. Will didn't bother with antimalarial medications.
In this Reporter's Notebook, Everett, who lives in Texas, recalls his visit to Latin America and his personal battle with a miserable parasite.
