Home on the FieldIn the 1990s, towns all across the South saw their populations grow — largely with immigrants from Mexico, Central and South America. They took jobs others didn't want. In just 20 years, Siler City, North Carolina saw its population go from 1% Hispanic to more than 50% Hispanic. That angered many in the community.
Journalist Paul Cuadros spent years reporting on the Latino population in large cities like Chicago. Then he moved to Siler City to write about how immigration policy was playing out in small town America. That's when it became personal for Cuadros. He's written a book about it called A Home On The Field. It chronicles the people he met in Siler City and how the game of soccer helped revive hope in this southern town. He talks with Peggy Wehmeyer.
