Description
A generation ago, the Green Revolution changed agriculture in many parts of the world. Scientists created new breeds of grains, which required the use of more synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. That led to increased yields of staple crops and the promise of an end to world hunger. But the new methods also had some negative consequences.
Host Peggy Wehmeyer talks with reporter Joel Bourne about the Green Revolution and its creator, Norman Borlaug, who died earlier this year.
Encore presentation from September 26, 2009.
