Buying Shoes, Saving Lives
Cody Fisher/Preemptive Love
Description

Jeremy Courtney is an American who, along with his family, lives in the Kurdish region of Iraq. In 2007, he and a friend set up an organization called Buy Shoes, Save Lives. They sell handmade traditional Kurdish shoes to help pay for children's heart surgeries.

The organization has since changed its name to The Preemptive Love Coalition and, while their mission is the same, one other thing has changed. Instead of sending sick children to Israel for the surgeries, they now accompany them to Turkey, a country with whom the Kurds also have a turbulent history.

Jeremy just returned from his first trip there. He talks with Peggy Wehmeyer.

Encore presentation from January 3, 2009.
