As a teenager, K'naan left behind violence in Somalia and moved with his family to New York. He ended up in Toronto, where he made his mark on the music scene by rapping about his home country. His first album, The Dusty Foot Philosopher, was released in 2006. His latest album, Troubadour, will be out next month.
