Description
People who live through war, conflict, and natural disaster often end up dealing with psychological trauma. Dr. James Gordon, a Harvard-trained psychiatrist, has seen this up close around the world, from Kosovo to post-Katrina New Orleans. He's also counseled American soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Dr. Gordon's techniques — part of his Washington-based Center for Mind Body Medicine — mix traditional psychotherapy with contemporary self-help techniques. In Gaza more than 10,000 have taken part. James Gordon tells host Peggy Wehmeyer that the therapy helps Gazans cope with life in what they call their "open-air prison."
