A man in West Sumatra straddles the frame of his temporary shelter. Catholic Relief Services helped him build it, with technical assistance from the organization Build Change.
Description
Lightning may not strike the same place twice, but earthquakes often do. In many developing countries, a lack of building standards in quake-prone areas can lead to thousands of unnecessary deaths. That's what happened in Indonesia's West Sumatra Province in September, when a 7.6 magnitude tremor toppled thousands of houses and claimed the lives of about 1,100 people.
