The Nahr al-Bared refugee camp was built in 1949 to house Palestinians displaced by the creation of the state of Israel. It was supposed to be temporary, but six decades later, Nahr al-Bared is still one of about a dozen refugee camps in Lebanon housing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.

The refugees aren't allowed to work or attend school outside the camps in Lebanon. The situation has been called a forgotten crisis.

David Snyder, an independent writer and photographer based in Baltimore, Maryland, recently visited the camp to photograph the work of several aid agencies. He filed this commentary about Adham, a young man he met.
