Researchers in Boston have figured out how to create a baby incubator out of used car parts.

It may sound bizarre, but this is an important invention that developers anticipate will save lives throughout the developing world. Current incubators cost in the neighborhood of $40,000, but the baby incubator made from recycled used car parts costs less than $1,000.

Developed countries have donated thousands of incubators to the developing world, but researchers at Duke University discovered that 96% become unusable due to mechanical failure within five years. With the car baby incubator, all doctors will need to do is to take the unit in need of repair to the local car repair shop.
