Description

Journalist Roxana Saberi was released from an Iranian prison a couple of weeks ago. Her case highlights the dangers journalists face in many parts of the world: censorship, beatings, imprisonment, even death.

The Committee to Protect Journalists estimates that some 125 journalists are in jail around the world at any given time. Most of them are local reporters without the clout to secure a quick release.

Leda Hartman spoke with Robert Mahoney, deputy director of the Committee to Protect Journalists, and asked him to explain how the safety of journalists was a human rights issue.
