Description
The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff recently ordered a review of U.S. strategy to combat piracy after pirates attacked the American ship Maersk Alabama off the coast of Somalia.
But even before the review is competed, experts are agreeing that the solution to piracy cannot be purely military. It has to address the problems that gave rise to piracy in the first place.
Ishaan Tharoor is a writer for Time Magazine International and wrote a recent story on the roots of piracy in Somalia. He joined host Peggy Wehmeyer from Hong Kong to discuss his reporting.
