Description

The river city of Lowell, Massachusetts once hummed to the sound of textile mills in massive, red brick factories. The mills have long since closed, and now, half Lowell's residents are from South Asia, Latin America and Africa — many of them refugees.

The children of these immigrants face the same problems as many inner city teens: poverty, gang violence and a high dropout rate. But a project called Fresh Roots takes them off the streets and onto the farm. Reporter Chris Burrell takes a closer look.
