Rescuing the BirdA bird rescued from the Tonle Sap River. Photo by Kelsey Timmerman.
Description
In the Cambodian capitol of Phnom Penh, a small Buddhist shrine sits on the banks of the Tonle Sap River. The area is filled with worshippers, tourists, beggars — and birds. In the Buddhist tradition practiced here, releasing caged birds is an act meant to release one's sorrows.
Travel writer Kelsey Timmerman tells us what happened when he tried to rescue one of those birds.
