Description
Southeastern Turkey, a predominantly Kurdish area, is one of the most underdeveloped parts of the country. Women there often raise their families in abject poverty. But an initiative in Diyarbakir, the regional capital, combines laundry with literacy: women learn to read and write as they wash their clothes.
