Young MigrantGrant Fuller/World Vision Report
Fifteen-year-old migrant Yimi Fajardo Piñeda sits dangerously close to the boxcar's edge as the train zips through the countryside.
Description
Every day, hundreds of Central American migrants ride atop Mexican freight trains bound for the U.S. border. A recent Amnesty International report estimates that thousands of migrants are assaulted and kidnapped every year by local gangs and other criminals. In spite of the danger, kids and teenagers often attempt the journey alone, risking their lives in the hopes of finding relatives — and a better life — in the United States.
Our reporter Grant Fuller rode the migrant train, and he brings us a day in the life of a young migrant.
We begin in the small town of Arriaga, in southern Mexico.
